Sands China: Green Partnership Supports Local SME

In the vibrant city of Macau, where modernity meets tradition, Sands China has long been a leader in innovation and sustainability. While running its iconic hotels and bustling shopping centers, Sands China is devoted to fostering a greener environment, both indoors and outdoors. This vision comes to life through strategic partnerships with local SMEs, including Luen Keong Engineering & Landscape – a homegrown company that enhances the lush, vibrant interiors of Sands China’s integrated resorts.

A flourishing partnership

Founded in 2000, Luen Keong initially focused on construction logistics before making a strategic pivot to landscaping, aligning perfectly with Macau’s growing emphasis on environmental aesthetics. Today, the company specializes in indoor and outdoor greening projects, offering comprehensive services from design and installation to maintenance. Their expertise includes seasonal flowers, potted plants, artificial foliage, and floral arrangements tailored for large-scale commercial spaces.

Their partnership with Sands China began in 2023 when Luen Keong successfully bid for a project to supply indoor festive flowers and potted plants for The Londoner Macao. This collaboration quickly expanded to include the supply and maintenance of plants across multiple Sands China resorts, encompassing everything from fresh flowers to artificial plants, tailored to the unique aesthetic and functional needs of each space.

According to Leong Kin Keong, Director of Luen Keong Engineering & Landscape, the company’s agility, expertise, and commitment to service excellence set it apart. “Our team conducts daily inspections to ensure every plant remains in pristine condition, with immediate replacements whenever needed – guaranteeing that our clients’ spaces always look their best. During peak periods like Christmas and Lunar New Year, we proactively scale up our resources to deliver seamless service. Our deep understanding of plant biology allows us to recommend species tailored to each indoor environment, optimizing both aesthetics and long-term sustainability.”

Unlike many local firms that focus solely on outdoor landscaping, Luen Keong has carved a niche in indoor greening – a critical need for resorts where aesthetics and air quality are paramount, said Ruby Lam, one of Sands China’s procurement and supply chain managers.

Lam, together with senior manager Tammie Wan, praised Luen Keong’s professionalism and reliability, particularly its ability to execute late-night installations without disrupting guests. “Their team understands the urgency of our operations and delivers flawlessly,” they noted.

Overcoming challenges together

The ability of the partnership to meet operational challenges has been essential. Factors like humidity, temperature, and sunlight influence plant growth, necessitating meticulous planning. During busy holidays, Luen Keong anticipates plant consumption and prepares accordingly to ensure uninterrupted service. Their expertise has enabled them to meet these demands, providing seamless plant maintenance during peak times.

Mutual growth and future opportunities

Partnering with Sands China has been transformative for Luen Keong. The steady workflow has enabled the company to refine its skills, expand its workforce, and gain credibility in the competitive world of resort landscaping. Leong Kin Keong, the company’s director, emphasizes that this collaboration has opened doors to new clients and projects.

As Sands China continues to embrace green living, the potential for further collaboration with Luen Keong is vast. Both parties are eager to explore new areas, such as outdoor landscaping and innovative vertical greening projects. “We’re excited to explore innovative green solutions together,” says Mr. Leong. This forward-thinking approach aligns with Sands China’s commitment to sustainable development and enhancing the beauty of the city.

This partnership exemplifies Sands China’s role in nurturing local businesses. By providing SMEs like Luen Keong with stable opportunities and operational challenges that drive innovation, Sands China reinforces its dedication to Macau’s economic and environmental sustainability.

As urban greening becomes a global priority, Sands China and Luen Keong are demonstrating that big visions can grow from local roots. Their collaboration not only beautifies spaces but also fosters a culture of resilience, creativity, and shared success—cornerstones of a thriving Macau.

Tips for lasting partnerships

Sands China believes that exceptional partnerships are built on quality and commitment. Operating 365 days a year, they value suppliers who share their dedication to reliability and long-term collaboration. Beyond delivering top-tier products and services, they seek partners who prioritize responsive after-sales support to ensure seamless operations during peak seasons or unforeseen challenges. Luen Keong Engineering & Landscape exemplifies this ethos, combining proactive maintenance with adaptive solutions.
