The total revenue of the construction sector registered an increase of 17.8 percent year-on-year in 2015 amounting to MOP93.35 billion, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
According to DSEC, the growth was related to the ongoing construction of large-scale hotels and entertainment facilities.
The Intermediate Consumption and Labor Cost also followed the same tendency, growing by 14.4 and 28.0 percent to a total of MOP69.83 billion and MOP14.52 billion, respectively.
Also growing exponentially was the gross surplus that increased by 31.1 percent year-on-year to a total of MOP9.00 billion.
The data, collected and treated by the DSEC, also noted that during the same year
a total of 2,750 establishments in the Construction Sector were operating (117 more than in the previous year). This led to an increase of 5,593 on the number of persons engaged in the sector, which employed a total of 50,961 people.
Companies and workers were involved in 1,377 construction projects; the private construction sector rose by 133 projects while public constructions dropped by 25.
The peninsula continued to be listed as one of the locations where the majority of construction works are occurring with a total of about 75 percent (1,027) of all construction works in the territory.
The value of construction work done in the peninsula has also increased by 28.8 percent year-on-year, driven mostly by the 118 percent surge in the Parish of Nossa Senhora de Fátima that included private residential construction in Areia Preta, as well as public housing and school construction in Fai Chi Kei and Ilha Verde areas.
