MGTO and Gaode Maps launch smart tourism platform to boost visitor experience

The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has partnered with Chinese mapping giant Gaode Maps, also known as Amap, to launch the “One-Click Smart Tour of Macau” platform, unveiled yesterday. This strategic cooperation aims to enhance the visitor experience through advanced smart technology, bridging tourism and digital innovation.

The platform is now live on Gaode Maps, allowing easy access for users.

According to MGTO, the Macau Smart Tour platform is designed to provide tourists with a seamless, intelligent service system encompassing itinerary planning, accommodations, attractions, dining, and entertainment.

The platform also introduces Macau’s “Street Establishment List,” showcasing popular merchants across sectors to encourage visitors to explore local neighborhoods and increase the economic vitality of community areas.

In her speech at yesterday’s cooperation launch ceremony, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes highlighted that artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly incorporated into Macau’s tourism sector to improve service efficiency. She also emphasized that these advancements enable tourists to explore the diverse “tourism+” offerings with greater ease.

Earlier, in September, MGTO released findings of the second-phase review study on the Master Plan, identifying AI as a vehicle “to drive tourism innovation” and listing it as a key focus for the city’s tourism evolution. The review study report was published on the Master Plan website on September 30.

MGTO also highlighted that Macau is ranked as the top city in Gaode’s “Overseas Super Destination” list, reflecting its preferred destination status among mainland travelers.

Gaode Maps remains the most widely used map application in mainland China, with over 500 million monthly active users.

Official statistics released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) show that Macau welcomed 3.47 million visitor arrivals in October 2025, marking a 10.8% year-over-year increase. Of these, arrivals from Mainland China rose 12% to 2,534,601, with the most significant growth of 22.6% seen among travelers using the Individual Visit Scheme, totaling 1,321,511.
