Two residents lose MOP450,000 in separate phone scams

The Judiciary Police (PJ) reported two separate fraud cases yesterday involving impersonation tactics that caused a combined loss of around MOP450,000. In one case, a local youth received a call from someone claiming to be a mainland law enforcement officer, alleging his mainland phone number was linked to crime. Following instructions, he later discovered MOP320,000 missing from his bank account. In another case, an elderly man lost MOP130,000 after scammers posing as Taobao customer service staff convinced him to provide personal details under the pretext of insurance renewal.
