UM hosts training for mainland school leaders

The University of Macau (UM) launched a two-week training program earlier this week for principals and lead teachers from China’s mainland, aiming to foster professional exchanges and elevate regional education standards.

At the opening ceremony of the “Macao Training Programme for Primary and Secondary School Principals and Teachers from Mainland,” UM Rector Yonghua Song spotlighted the university’s advances in academics, research and global reach, while praising the Faculty of Education’s (FED) strong performance in teacher training, educational research and regional collaboration.

Building on that momentum, FED Dean Fan Lianghuo outlined the faculty’s strengths in STEM education, AI integration and curriculum reform, urging participants to turn insights into actionable school improvements.

Liu Xiya, principal-general of Chongqing Xiejiawan Schools, spoke for the group, expressing eagerness to gain “a systematic understanding of Macau’s education system and innovative practices” through expert guidance and hands-on learning.

To deepen that exposure, UM arranged field trips offering “a deeper understanding of educational technology and innovation.” Stops include the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), Macao Science Center, UM-affiliated schools, campus facilities and the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City.
