Unemployment rate falls slightly to 1.7%

The overall unemployment rate stood at 1.7% in the November 2025 to January 2026 period, while the local resident unemployment rate was 2.2%, both down by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period, the Statistics and Census Bureau said. The city’s total labor force was about 494,800, a decrease of 800 people. Among 6,500 unemployed residents, many previously worked in retail and real estate and business services. New labor market entrants seeking their first job accounted for 9.2% of the unemployed, down 1.7 percentage points. Most of the 6,400 underemployed residents were employed in transport and warehousing or real estate and business services.
