A new tropical storm is developing in the northwest Pacific, as meteorologists warn that the typhoon, this season’s seventh storm, could soon impact parts of China’s southeastern coast.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) forecasts mainly cloudy skies with a few showers and thunderstorms today.
Temperatures are set to range from 26 degrees Celcius to 30 degrees, with humidity between 75% and 95%. Winds will be moderate east to southeasterly, with occasional gusts.
Tomorrow will bring cloudy conditions with sunny intervals and light easterly winds. From Friday through Sunday, mostly cloudy weather with brief sunny periods and scattered showers is expected. Winds will shift to southwesterly and remain light.
The Hong Kong Observatory reports a broad trough of low pressure moving across the Guangdong coast and the central and northern South China Sea, bringing persistent downpours and thunderstorms for the next two to three days.
Forecasters warn that a new low-pressure area could develop along this trough, resulting in unstable weather near Luzon.
“Meanwhile, the area of low pressure to the east of the Philippines will develop into a tropical cyclone, and move into the East China Sea later this week.”
China’s meteorological department confirms that the tropical disturbance east of the Philippines has developed into a tropical depression and is expected to further strengthen, becoming Typhoon Fansigao by the end of the week.
Current models show the storm’s trajectory could impact Fujian and Zhejiang, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to Southern China. NS
