Visitor arrivals grow 14.5% year-on-year in July

Macau recorded 3,458,366 visitor arrivals in July, representing a 14.5% year-on-year increase, according to the latest data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). The figure also marked a 19.7% month-on-month rise from the 2,891,003 visitors registered in June.
The surge was largely fueled by a 24.1% rise in same-day arrivals, which reached 1,980,732. Overnight visitors grew at a slower pace of 3.7%, totaling 1,477,634.
The average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.2 days. Overnight visitors stayed an average of 2.4 days, while same-day visitors’ duration edged down by 0.1 day to 0.2 day.
Mainland China continued to dominate as Macau’s largest source market, with arrivals climbing 17.4% year-on-year to 2,563,212. Among these, 178,533 entered under the “one trip per week” policy, 56,602 through the “multiple-entry” scheme, and 8,993 via the “tourist group multi-entry” policy. Visitors under the Individual Visit Scheme jumped 23.6%, significantly boosting the overall total.
International arrivals increased moderately by 2.8% to 177,774. In Southeast Asia, visitor numbers showed mixed results: Indonesia (14,884) rose 9.7%, Thailand (12,352) surged 48.9%, and Singapore (5,836) edged up 2.9%. Conversely, the Philippines (37,912) and Malaysia (8,102) posted declines of 11.8% and 9.6%, respectively.
Long-haul markets also contributed to growth. Arrivals from the United States rose 6.2% to 15,796, while Spain registered 799 visitors, up 55.8% from the same month last year.
By mode of entry, 83.3% of visitors – 2.88 million – arrived via land, an increase of 19.5% year-on-year. Growth was led by a 20.1% rise at the Border Gate and a sharp 43.2% increase through Hengqin port, which handled 501,740 visitors. In contrast, arrivals by sea and air dropped 2.6% and 8.6%, respectively.
For the first seven months of 2025, Macau welcomed 22,676,906 visitors, up 14.9% from 19,741,172 during the same period in 2024. The growth was primarily driven by a 25.5% increase in same-day visitors, while overnight arrivals rose by 2.8%.
The average length of stay across all visitors during the January–July period declined slightly by 0.1 day to 1.1 days, underscoring the rising dominance of day trippers.
