Zhuhai-Macau public transport card launched in mainland

The new Zhuhai-Macau Public Transport Card was officially launched last week, providing a seamless travel experience across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond.

This card enables users to simply swipe for public bus and light rail services in both Zhuhai and Macau, eliminating the hassle of carrying multiple cards or exchanging currencies.

Developed through a collaboration between MacauPass and Zhuhai Tong Technology Co. Ltd., the card supports the region’s “one-hour living circle” initiative by integrating multiple transit systems into a single, convenient payment solution.

It is accepted not only throughout the GBA but also in over 330 other prefectural cities across China.

The card features two separate wallets to handle payments in different currencies: an MOP wallet for transactions in Macau and an RMB wallet for use in the mainland and Hong Kong.

In terms of design, the card incorporates notable landmarks from both cities, such as Macau’s Ruins of St. Paul’s and the Macau Tower, alongside Zhuhai’s Fisher Girl statue.

According to MacauPass, users can enjoy a 10% discount on public transport fares and free transfers in Zhuhai.

In Macau, the card is accepted not only on buses and the light rail but also at over 27,000 outlets, including restaurants and retail stores, expanding its utility beyond transportation.

Despite these advantages, the card is currently not available for purchase in person in Macau. Prospective cardholders can acquire it online via Zhuhai Tong’s WeChat program, as well as on social media platforms like Xiaohongshu and Douyin.

For those seeking in-person purchases, the card is sold at Zhuhai Tong Customer Service Centers in the Xiangzhou and Doumen districts for RMB 58.

To reload the card, users must top up each currency separately. The MOP wallet can be reloaded in person at MacauPass Customer Service Centers or via the MPay app, while the RMB wallet can be topped up through Zhuhai Tong’s WeChat program or at physical customer service points across Zhuhai.
