Woman loses over HKD473,000 in fake law enforcement scam

A female resident has fallen victim to a suspected fake law enforcement scam, losing more than HKD473,000, police said. The Judiciary Police said they were alerted by mainland authorities and later contacted the victim. In mid-April, she received a call from someone claiming to be an officer from the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, alleging her mainland mobile number was linked to multiple fraud cases. She was instructed to join a video investigation and provide online banking details for “fund verification,” which she did. She later found the money had been transferred after being alerted by police.
