Briefs | SBM to open ‘Café de Paris’ next year

Monaco’s Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), which manages and owns the Monte Carlos Casino and several others within the small country, announced that it will next year open a brasserie in Macau, according to Le Figaro. The brasserie will be the second branch of the country’s famous “Café de Paris” and is expected to open sometime in the middle of 2017 at the Galaxy resort. The Monaco-based restaurant serves a mix of French and Mediterranean food. The company said that it was also hopeful that the publicity in the MSAR might attract some Chinese gamblers to Monaco. Last year, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) bought a 5 percent stake in SBM, which GEG vice chairman Francis Liu described as a “strategic investment” that might result in international collaboration in the near future.

Man electrocuted by light decoration

On Sunday, a 65-year-old resident was electrocuted by an iron string used to fix a light display at Tap Seac Square. According to a report by Jornal Cheng Pou, the resident touched the string while passing through the light decorations of the Moon Cake festival, causing bleeding and second-degree burns on his right thumb. The resident remained lucid throughout treatment. Following the incident, the Civil and Municipal Affairs Bureau arranged a barrier around the display. The Fire Services Bureau discovered that an electricity leakage in one of the light displays was the cause of the accident.

China’s state-owned company to build LRT depot

The government has outsourced the building of a Light Railway Transit (LRT) depot to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) in a contract worth MOP1.07 billion, according to a notice published yesterday in the government’s Official Gazette. The total payment will be settled over a period of four years, up until 2019 when a final installment will be paid to CSCEC. Earlier, the government paid MOP85 million to previous contractors of the project in order to unilaterally terminate deals. The depot project is one of the five projects comprising the Taipa section of the LRT. It will occupy an area of about 130,000 square meters.

Police officer forgot gun in public bathroom

A male traffic officer is facing disciplinary investigation after leaving his gun in a public bathroom. The incident occurred last week. Police were alerted by a resident who reported finding the gun in the men’s bathroom close to the Golden Lotus Square. The Public Security Police Force confirmed that a traffic officer lost his gun while on-duty at the Lotus Square. The officer left the firearm behind at 11:30 a.m. when he left the place, and returned back to the scene 10 minutes later.
