Cape Verde | PM raises funding for the Special Maritime Economy Zone of São Vicente

Ulisses Correia e Silva (center) arrives in Beijing to attend the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation

The Cape Verdean prime minister met on Monday in Beijing with officials from the China Development Bank, “one of the largest development finance institutions in the world,” wrote José Ulisses Correia e Silva on his personal Facebook account.

Correia e Silva also said that the government of Cape Verde intends to boost relations with China “in order to make the archipelago an important economic and strategic partner of that country,” specifically through the joint construction of the Special Area of Maritime Economy of São Vicente (ZEEMSV).

The ZEEMSV is a project for which the Cape Verdean government, “wishes to have strong partnerships with financial institutions, namely the China Development Bank.”

The prime minister said the “full openness to share its vast experience in financing the construction of infrastructure of this kind, as well as in the development of a fruitful cooperation in this sector,” from the Development Bank of China was gratifying to receive.

José Ulisses Correia e Silva arrived in Beijing on Sunday to take part in the third edition of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

The first FOCAC was held in Beijing in 2006 and the second edition was held in South Africa in 2015.  MDT/Macauhub
