MOP4.58 million was raised at the annual charity auction and dinner hosted by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau at the Grand Lisboa on 4 December. All proceeds raised from the charity auction were fully donated to ten charities in Macau.
The high point of the evening was the auction of a watercolor of Macau’s Inner Harbour by Alexander Rattray in 1857. Rattray served as Assistant Surgeon aboard the Nankin in the China seas from 1855 to 1858, and chronicled his voyages with precise drawings and watercolors. After intense bidding, SJM, represented by its directors Dr. Ambrose So, Ms. Angela Leong and Mr. Louis Ng, was the successful bidder for this item at MOP1.6 million. The other auction items included six bottles of 50 year-aged Kweichow Moutai and a selection of French fine wines.
All proceeds raised from the charity auction were donated to ten Macau charities, namely Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society, Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, Obra das Mães, Macau Special Olympics, Macau Holy House of Mercy, Charity Fund From The Readers of Macao Daily News (2014 Walk for a Million), Caritas de Macau (2015 Caritas Macau Charity Bazaar), Yat On Responsible Gaming Counseling Centre, Macau Social Services Centre and Macau Association of the Hearing Impaired.  A check presentation ceremony was held immediately after the auction and was attended by representatives from the ten local charities.
Dr. Ambrose So, Chairman of SJM’s Board of Directors said, “Macau’s local charities provide services of great value to the people of Macau. SJM is proud to support these organizations and to continue our tradition of giving back to society.”
