The Macao Healthy Enterprise Program, part of the Healthy Macau Blueprint, saw last year the participation of around 100,000 workers distributed across 26 participating companies, the director of the Health Bureau (SSM), Alvis Lo, said yesterday in a speech ahead of the unveiling of the year’s winners in what concerns healthy practices and canteens.
Lo also noted that participating companies in the program not only met but fully exceeded the proposed goals.
“Last year, all participating companies met all established objectives, achieving a 100% compliance rate, which demonstrates the high level of commitment and strong implementation capacity of the companies, which carried out more than 1,200 activities and attracted over 220,000 participants,” Lo said.

“Since its implementation, the Healthy Enterprises Program has fostered a deep integration between corporate social responsibility and public health, achieving very positive results last year, particularly in the following three areas. First, the scope of participation has been steadily expanding; second, ensuring sufficient space for the workers; and third, establishing self-managed healthcare system,” the official.
According to the SSM director, in addition to the increased participation, 12 companies have jointly built 24 employee cafeterias that serve low-salt or low-sugar meals, benefiting approximately 86,500 people daily, and have also provided sufficient space for exercise.
On self-managed healthcare, he also claimed that 168 stations were installed in employee support areas and that they have been used by over 47,000 workers, which he said shows that the “companies have put in a great deal of effort to protect the health of their workers.”

As he also remarked, the ceremony held yesterday not only recognized the work done over the past years, but also marked the start of the new program, effective from 2025, which established two new awards, including the Healthy Enterprise of the Year and the Healthy Workers’ Canteen of the Year.
These awards were created to “recognize companies that excel in creating healthy work environments and promoting healthy eating, thereby setting an exemplary standard.”
Lo added that for this year, it is expected that the program will benefit 113,000 people.
Regarding the 2025 award winners, the Bank of China – Macau (BOC) and the Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) won the Healthy Enterprise of the Year award in Group A, while in Group B, MGM Macau and Wynn Resorts took the trophies.
In Group C, the Sun Chung Property Management (Macao) Ltd. and the Macao Science Center also came out on top of this category.
Last but not least, the award for Healthy Workers’ Canteen of the Year went to MGM Macau, Wynn Resorts, and CEM.
In this way, the three companies were the most-awarded in 2025, each receiving two awards.
While receiving the awards, Michelle Chiu, vice president of Human Resources at MGM Macau, noted that the awards were of great significance to the company, as “they align closely with our vision for growth.”
“That is why we always strive to uphold our commitment to building a healthy company. We believe that health is the foundation of all our successes,” she added, also noting the achievement granted to the MGM canteen, which “has prepared many healthy, delicious meals for our employees.”
Chiu also added that in the future, MGM will continue to dedicate efforts to transform Macau into a healthier, happier, and more energized society.
Representing Wynn Resorts, Lawrence Tam, director of Employee Service, said in his speech that the awards received “belong to all our employees.”
Tam noted that they would not have been possible without the support provided by the SSM in establishing a healthy workplace at Wynn, aimed at creating a healthy and energetic environment where employees can lead healthy lives.
He remarked that Wynn Macau Resorts has been in Macau for over 20 years, and “we firmly believe that a company’s most important asset is its employees, and that our employees’ health is our greatest wealth. Therefore, we will actively organize and promote activities that can improve the health of our employees as well as the community.”
In the name of CEM, Human Resources and Sustainability Department head Hellen Lok noted that in the past year, the company has installed self-check health stations at various workplaces and has also organized seminars and other activities related to topics such as mental health and other aspects to raise awareness of disease prevention.
Lok also noted that the company had organized a series of community activities, including a dance contest, to encourage citizens to focus on healthy living and stress relief.
“In the future, we will continue to foster a culture of sustainable development,” she remarked, adding that the company has also been continuously optimizing the menu in the employee cafeteria by establishing an Occupational Safety and Health Center, while striving to organize multiple sports teams as well as relaxation activities that have been attended by around 700 staff members.
According to SSM, the program in 2025 also included 776 physical and sports activity sessions, of which 719 were dedicated to staff members of participating companies and 57 were open to the general public. A total of 57,000 employees and 33,000 residents of Macau participated in these sessions.
