Firms plan a salary increment of 2.7% in 2025

The recent survey reveals that the average planned salary increment across participating organizations is 2.72%, reflecting a decline of 0.26% from the previous year’s average of 2.98%.

According to the “2025 MSS & Hello Jobs Macau Salary Increment and Annual Bonus Survey,” this downward trend suggests a more cautious approach by employers in response to economic uncertainties.

In addition to salary increments, the survey highlights that 83.87% of organizations plan to implement raises, down from 89.33% last year, while 16.13% have indicated no plans for salary increases, up from 10.67% in 2024.

On the bonus front, the survey indicates that 90.32% of organizations intend to offer bonuses for fiscal year 2024 performance, an increase from 88% in the previous year. However, 9.68% of companies reported no plans for bonuses, a decrease from 12% in 2023.

Jiji Tu, executive director of MSS Recruitment and hello-jobs.com, commented on these findings, noting that while planned salary increments and bonuses are slightly lower than in previous years, there remains hope for improved conditions in 2025.

“Similarly, the planned annual bonus by organizations for FY2024 is also slightly lower than the planned annual bonus for FY2023, as per the survey conducted a year ago, reflecting that the actual performance of many organizations in 2024 was slightly below expectations,” Tu added.

Recently, lawmakers José Pereira Coutinho and Ella Lei have urged the government to update the salaries of civil servants.

In their statements, the two lawmakers noted that the government should follow the example set last week by the gaming concessionaire Sands China Ltd (SCL), which announced increases in the salaries of their workers to take effect in March this year.
