Food & Beverage | Chefs to gather in Macau for ‘Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’

Asia’s top chefs and restaurateurs will gather in Macau between March 25 and 27 for the unveiling of “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018”, a gourmet awards ceremony set to be a highlight of Macau’s “Year of Gastronomy.”

The winners will be announced during a gala at Wynn Palace on March 27, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced in a statement.

Ten special awards will be presented at the occasion, including Chefs’ Choice, Sustainable Restaurant, Asia’s Best Pastry Chef, One to Watch, Lifetime Achievement, and others.

A series of talks by top chefs, titled “50BestTalks”, will be held on March 26 at Wynn Macau. With the theme of “Exploring Identity” in Asian cuisines, the session will consist of a culinary conference and demonstration by chefs from Japan, Singapore and Taiwan, who will share their stories and their takes on industry trends.

Launched in 2013, “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” is the regional version of the famous list of the world’s “50 Best Restaurants”, which has been published by William Reed Business Media since 2002.

The ceremony was previously held in Singapore and Bangkok for three years and two years, respectively.

Two Macau restaurants made the list last year, although only one local restaurant was listed for the first four years of the Asian edition.

Last November, MGTO and the organizers announced that Macau would be the host destination for the awards ceremony and related activities in 2018 and 2019.
