Gongbei customs seizes over 1,000 smuggled cigars

Gongbei Customs in Zhuhai intercepted a Hong Kong–registered vehicle at the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge Zhuhai checkpoint on June 12, uncovering 1,080 premium cigars valued at more than 100,000 yuan (approximately MOP113,000). The cigars were concealed in a suitcase on the rear seats, in the trunk, and in the spare-tire compartment of the vehicle. According to reports, the driver was caught during a routine inspection after customs officers detected anomalies in the vehicle’s luggage. Authorities remind travelers that tobacco products are restricted when entering mainland China, with strict duty-free allowances in place to prevent smuggling.
