Immigration authorities from Zhuhai have announced that the Gongbei Port Inspection Station has recorded over 64 million passengers in the first half of this year (H1).
The same authorities noted that this figure represents a 6% year-over-year increase compared with the same period in 2025.
The highest daily passenger flow reached slightly over 460,000 crossings, with this record broken on three occasions during the same period.
Noting the start of the summer holiday period, the neighboring authorities said they expect Gongbei Port to continue to record a high number of passengers throughout the period and into the end of the year.
They said they expect an increase in passenger flow due to student study tours, family holidays, and short-distance trips between Macau and neighboring provinces.
The same authorities said they expect the daily passenger flow record to be broken again in the second half of the year, potentially on more than one occasion.
Regarding the results, it was noted that the number of mainland residents traveling to Macau for tourism has increased significantly since the start of this year, a trend also driven by higher flows of local residents traveling more often to the mainland.
The number of daily commutes between Zhuhai and Macau remains stable.
Zhuhai authorities also note that the continued development of cultural and tourism cooperation activities between the two sides is likely to increase family trips and short-distance trips by young people.
This increased regional integration is seen as the main driver of the border post’s continued high demand, with passenger flow expected to remain high and increase.
To facilitate border crossings, the authorities on both sides established Qingmao Port, which opened to the public in September 2021. Despite having rapidly increased usage, the port never managed to effectively ease the number of passengers traveling via the Border Gate, some 800 meters away, which has remained, by far, the most used port between Macau and the mainland.
Even so, Qingmao Port has surpassed 100 million cumulative travelers since opening in August last year.
Contributing to the higher usage of this port was its 24-hour, innovative customs system, which streamlines border checks with one-stop clearance, reducing processing to about 20 seconds. In 2024, Qingmao accounted for 16.3% of Macau’s passenger traffic, according to data from the Public Security Police Force.
In 2025, Border Gate Port accounted for 124 million crossings (52.7%), followed by Qingmao with 36.36 million (15.4%); Hengqin Port was third with 12.9% (30.35 million), and the Macau Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge was fourth with 11.8% (27.96 million).
