Indebted PSP officer nabbed for extortion

An indebted police officer is facing prosecution for his premeditated attempt to plant drugs on a mainlander in order to extort him afterwards. The scandal came to light after the victim turned to the Public Security Police Force for help. The male officer, aged 27, joined the security force in 2009. He reportedly committed the crime last Thursday during his annual leave, posing as a plainclothes police officer. Advised by his loan shark, he secretly inserted a pocket full of white powder into the male mainlander’s pocket after approaching him for his identity with two other locals impersonating police officers. He then requested HKD30,000 from the victim in exchange for his immediate release. After being notified, the police arrested the trio after an investigation, which found the officer in debt for HKD120,000. The police have launched  disciplinary proceedings and added that they would strengthen discipline among their officers in different units.
