Sonia Chan, Secretary for Administration and Justice, denounced the brutal killing of newborn puppies at a function last Saturday while urging any witnesses to come forward to the authorities.
However, the top official failed to address whether the one-year prison term drafted in the animal protection act would be amended amid public demand for a longer imprisonment, only saying that the administration would listen to the Legislative Assembly’s committees.
Last Saturday morning, the city saw another case of animal brutality, as an unleashed pet dog was fatally crushed by a van, leaving the female owner in tears.
The owner accused the van driver and the passenger of knowingly slaying the dog in whwn it ran out in front of the vehicle. The pair’s irresponsible remarks have since stirred widespread outcry on social media.
