Mainland firms voice interest in Macau at Beijing trade summits

Several mainland enterprises have expressed an interest in establishing operations in Macau according to a recent statement from the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
At the recent Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit 2025 and the 27th China Beijing International High-tech Expo, IPIM reported engaging with more than 20 enterprises and venture capital institutions with a view toward expanding the region’s economic footprint.
While addressing the audience at the opening ceremony of the Global Trade and Investment Promotion Summit 2025, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng said that partnering with China means “walking alongside opportunities.”
China’s advancements in sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicles (EVs) were also highlighted at the conference as examples of the country’s openness to global opportunities.
This year’s summit saw a higher level of international participation than ever before, with a record number of countries and regions represented, as well as the largest presence of overseas institutions and delegates to date. More than 800 people attended the meeting, including officials from foreign government departments, international organizations, foreign business associations, and global trade promotion institutions, as well as representatives from Chinese and foreign enterprises, according to Xinhua.
During the summit, IPIM promoted Macau’s strategic role as a “precise connector” between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
IPIM stated that “a Fortune Global 500 automotive manufacturer” and “companies ranked in the Hurun AI Firms Top 50” are among the interested parties planning to expand in Macau. The unnamed companies aim to promote and sell products locally through direct sales or partnerships and leverage Macau as a platform to enter the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and explore Portuguese-speaking markets.
