MGM’s Cultural Initiatives Win National Honors and Spotlight Macao at Venice Biennale

MGM is strengthening its role as a cultural bridge between China and the world—championing cross-cultural dialogue through initiatives like the POLY MGM MUSEUM’s award-winning “Maritime Silk Road” exhibition and its support for Macao’s showcase at the Venice Biennale, all while elevating the global visibility of Chinese culture.
POLY MGM MUSEUM’s “Maritime Silk Road” Exhibition Achieving National Recognition
POLY MGM MUSEUM’s inaugural exhibition, “The Maritime Silk Road – Discover the mystical seas and encounter the treasures of the ancient trade route”, has been honored with the International and Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan Cooperation Award at the 22nd (2024) “Top Ten Museum Exhibitions” in China recently. This prestigious recognition highlights the museum’s role as a bridgehead for Chinese culture’s global outreach, reinforcing Macao’s position as a hub for international exchange and cross-cultural collaboration, where Chinese culture stays central while embracing coexistence with diverse traditions. Since its grand opening six months ago, POLY MGM MUSEUM has welcomed nearly 700,000 visitors, with attendance continuing to grow.
The “Top Ten Museum Exhibitions” award represents the highest distinction in China’s museum exhibition sector. Guided by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and organized by the Chinese Museums Association and China Cultural Relics Newspaper, this annual selection aims to elevate exhibition standard and public service level.
“Parallel Worlds” at Venice Biennale: Macao’s Presence on the World Stage
As part of its ongoing efforts to Macao’s cultural development and international collaboration, MGM also supported the “Parallel Worlds, Exhibition from Macao, China: 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia”, which is organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and implemented by the Macao Museum of Art, held from 10 May to 23 November 2025 in Venice, Italy.
The exhibition, jointly curated by Wang Shu, the laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and Lu Wenyu, the recipient of the Schelling Architecture Prize, showcases four “parallel worlds” of Macao: the profound space of historic town, the symbolic representation of integrated resort architecture, the geometric order of the modern city, and the future projection of a digital and intangible city. These aspects are presented as four mirror images, reflecting how Macao maintains its cultural roots amidst globalization while embracing the future with an open attitude. Through aerial photography and a unique perspective, the renowned architectural photographer and Venice Biennale Golden Lion awardee Iwan Baan portrays the relationship between Macao’s architecture, urban landscape and natural environment in a compelling narrative. Professors and students from architectural schools in both mainland China and Macao showcase a rich variety of creative installations in the exhibition, providing new ideas for the future development of urban architecture in Macao.
