MGTO expands travel alerts to Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Pakistan

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has expanded the number of countries and travel destinations covered by the Macau SAR’s Travel Alert System.
The new alert now covers 110 destinations, including Iran, Lebanon, Syria (Level 3), and Pakistan (Level 2).
The Level 3 travel alert (Avoid Travel) indicates the presence of an extreme threat to personal safety. People traveling to these locations should be aware of the severe situation and the limits on official assistance that can be provided.
They are advised to avoid traveling to the destination and, in certain situations, to leave the destination.
Level 2 (Reconsider Non-Essential Travel) applies when there is a potentially elevated threat to personal safety. Residents planning to travel to these destinations should reconsider their itinerary or travel at a later time. They are advised to avoid non-essential travel to the destination.
Recently, the MGTO joined the Monetary Authority of Macao, local travel agencies, and insurance companies to solicit their opinions and familiarize them with the information involved and the optimized webpage about travel alerts.
In the same statement, MGTO said it would proceed with regular evaluations of the travel alerts issued and continue to optimize the travel alert system.
In addition to the two primary levels of travel alert, there is also a first level (Level 1), which indicates the need to exercise caution while traveling to these destinations. However, there is no concrete motive or threat.
Generally, travel alerts at the highest levels cover situations such as social unrest, war and armed conflicts, and disease outbreaks. Lower levels indicate less threatening conditions, such as weather-related events.
