MIF highlights forums promoting Greater Bay opportunities

The “23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (MIF) and the “2018 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2018 PLPEX) concluded on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the organizers during the three-day events, a total of 75 agreements were signed in the Signing Centre, covering co-operation between governments and associations, MICE, cross-border e-commerce, tourism, cultural and creative industries, environmental protection technologies, talent development, research into healthcare big data, and product manufacturing, promotion and agency. In addition, over 400 matching sessions were held in the Business Matching Area.

MIF featured a series of activities such as the “Forum of Excellence in Achievement of World Chinese Youth Entrepreneurs,” the “New Patterns and Challenges of Leadership,” and the “Inspection Tour of Representatives of Chinese Entrepreneurs to the Greater Bay Area.”

Themed sessions looked into the potential influence of the upcoming Outline Plan for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge on the future development of the Greater Bay Area.

The forum also encouraged Chinese entrepreneurs to integrate their business development with the growth and the future of the Greater Bay Area.

This year’s forum was joined by over 1,500 representatives of Chinese entrepreneurs from 38 countries and regions worldwide.
Meanwhile, the 4th Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking-Countries attracted over 300 participants.

At the forum, Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac said that the collaborations through the platform between China and Portuguese-  speaking countries were deepening, and the implementation of the Outline Plan for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area was expected shortly.

Thus this year’s “Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” focused on the “co-operation and development of featured finance in the business sector in China and Portuguese-speaking countries” and “advantages and opportunities of Portuguese-speaking countries and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.”

Meanwhile, executive director of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Sam Lei, said that the bureau will provide more assistance to deepen the co-operation between Congjiang county and Macau, for example using other MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) platforms in Macau to promote investment in Congjiang county, as well as by organizing for relevant companies to visit Congjiang county, especially those engaged in agricultural products, tourism, traditional Chinese medicine and souvenirs.
