New Art Garden corridor to open, easing travel between ZAPE and NAPE

A new pedestrian corridor through the Art Garden in the ZAPE district will open at 10 a.m. tomorrow, creating direct access between the ZAPE and NAPE districts.

The project’s completion follows the Chief Executive’s earlier inspection, which emphasized transportation improvements in the area, and subsequent interdepartmental coordination.

The newly configured space eliminates the previous requirement for pedestrians to detour around the Art Garden perimeter while incorporating accessible facilities for all users.

Key infrastructure upgrades include expanded crosswalks, with the Avenida da Amizade crossing now 12 meters wide and the Rua de Silva Mendes crossing widened to six meters, substantially improving pedestrian capacity and safety.

Traffic improvements include the removal of water-filled barriers along Avenida da Amizade, enabling a four-lane traffic configuration to optimize vehicle flow. Motorists should be aware of these permanent changes to the road layout.

Additionally, the Municipal Affairs Bureau will continue landscape enhancements at the Art Garden, replanting greenery affected during construction. Ricaela Diputado
