Two students lose nearly HKD1.4 million to fake ‘public security’ scams

Two mainland female university students studying in Macau fell victim to fake “public security and judicial” scams, losing nearly HKD1.4 million in total. According to the Judiciary Police, both victims received calls from individuals claiming to be mainland police or Macau immigration officials. One was asked to pay HKD870,000 “bail” and borrowed money from family before suspecting the scam. The other was accused of money laundering and lost RMB300,000 after providing banking details and following instructions from the scammers.
