Over MOP557,000 lost in Alipay scam cases over three days

The Judiciary Police received 13 reports of Alipay-related phone scams between May 12 and 14, with 11 victims losing a total of over MOP557,000. The victims, four men and nine women, are all Macau residents who received calls from local numbers. Scammers posed as Alipay staff, claiming victims’ “fund protection” plans were expiring and would incur monthly charges unless canceled. Believing they were canceling the service, victims were tricked into transferring amounts ranging from MOP9,000 to MOP131,000.
