Police arrest man over illegal exchange involving HKD3 million

The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a 51-year-old mainland man suspected of conducting illegal currency exchanges while using a fake non-local worker identity. Police seized HKD3 million and a mobile phone in connection with the case. The suspect allegedly exchanged more than HKD1.6 million with two mainland gamblers in two transactions before a HKD3 million exchange for RMB2.59 million. The gamblers later found the transfer had been restricted by mainland banks, leading to a dispute. Police said the funds were temporarily subject to risk controls rather than a judicial freeze.
