Police bust loan-sharking operation at Casino

Police authorities uncovered a loan-sharking case at a casino, arresting three mainland Chinese men suspected of lending money at high interest rates.

Authorities seized approximately HKD510,000 in cash and chips linked to the case.

During a routine patrol of the Cotai area casinos on September 2, officers noticed unusual behavior among four gamblers at a table.

One female gambler handed her winnings to a nearby man, prompting police to intervene. Investigations suggest the woman had borrowed HKD300,000 for gambling and was required to hand over HKD100,000 of her winnings as interest.

The three arrested men, all in their 30s and from mainland China, were found in possession of around HKD480,000 in chips suspected to be proceeds from illegal activities, along with more than HKD20,000 in cash.

According to authorities, investigations are ongoing.
