Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai expressed his condolences in a letter to the Tibet authorities for those impacted by the earthquake that struck Xigaze, Dingri County, in the Tibet Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning, according to a press statement from the Government Information Bureau.
In the letter, addressed to the Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Junzheng, and the Acting Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, Karma Tsedan, Sam noted that the 6.8-magnitude earthquake had caused serious casualties among local people and property damage. He expressed, on behalf of the Macau Special Administrative Region government and all Macau residents, mourning for those fatally injured and offered his deepest condolences to their families, along with his thoughts for those injured in the disaster.
The CE added, “Under the leadership of the Central government, with the unity and cooperation of local officials and the public, the affected areas will overcome this adversity.”
He also offered support to the authorities in Tibet to back all rescue operations, expressing wishes for the smooth progress of the rescue efforts and hoping that the lives of the people in the earthquake-hit area would soon return to normal. RM
