Seven women report online scams with losses of MOP60,000

Seven middle-aged women in Macau have recently fallen victim to a series of online fraud cases, suffering combined losses of around MOP 60,000, according to the Judiciary Police (PJ).

In two cases, the victims reported receiving calls from individuals claiming to be “Alipay customer service” representatives.

The callers told the women that their security protection plans were expiring and that they needed to pay fees to renew them or follow procedures to cancel.

The calls were transferred to another “staff member,” who instructed the victims to visit a specific website and enter their personal banking and credit card details. The women were also asked to conduct transactions and send screenshots for “verification.”

Both later discovered unauthorized withdrawals from their accounts, totaling more than MOP26,000.

In five other incidents, women reported that their credit card details had been misused for online transactions or that they had been deceived while attempting to purchase buffet vouchers and concert tickets online. Losses in these cases amounted to nearly MOP35,000. Lv
