The University of Macau’s (UM) Hengqin campus in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone has moved forward with the awarding of construction, design, and supervision contracts for its North and South sections, with a total value exceeding RMB6.1 billion.

According to the Public Asset Supervision and Administration Bureau, the North Section received six bids, ranging from RMB2.62 billion to RMB4.22 billion. The contract was awarded in November last year for RMB3.75 billion.

The South Section attracted seven bids, from RMB1.48 billion to RMB2.37 billion, with the contract awarded in October for RMB2.086 billion.

Supervision services were also publicly tendered, with the North Section valued at over RMB34 million and the South Section at over RMB17 million.

Management services were awarded in December at over RMB37.85 million. Additional design and cost-control services were procured through direct inquiry, totaling RMB185 million.

Construction work began last month.

Some building clusters are expected to be completed by February 2028, with full completion scheduled for November 2028. The campus, covering 375,600 square meters of land and 831,000 square meters of building space, will include teaching buildings, a sports center, international exchange facilities, and student and faculty housing.

The campus will house the Medical, Informatics, Engineering, and Design schools and will support interdisciplinary research initiatives.

UM opens Hengqin campus to public

For the first time, the public will be able to visit the UM’s transitional campus in Hengqin during its 45th anniversary kickoff ceremony and campus open day on Sunday (Jan. 11), with the entire event also streamed online.

Visitors can also tour the Zhuhai UM Technology Research Institute at Hengqin Youth Entrepreneurship Valley.

The main campus will host around 250 in-person activities, including admissions consultations, academic and research experiences, and interactive entertainment. Students and parents can attend enrollment talks and meet professors, while visitors can participate in public lectures and try out sports facilities. LV
