The number of licensed motor vehicles in Macau increased by 5 pct year-
on-year to 236,334 at the end of September, while the registration of new vehicles increased by 8 pct to 15,122 in the first three quarters of this year.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), traffic accidents which occurred in the first nine months of the year also increased by 5 pct year-on-year to a total of 11,737 cases, resulting in 3,969 casualties, 10 of whom were killed.
In the first three quarters of 2014, cross-border vehicle traffic increased by 6 pct year-on-year to 3,652,186 vehicle trips, of which vehicle traffic through the Border Gate shared 80 pct.
Meanwhile, the Macau airport was host to 35,484 commercial flights, representing a 7 pct increase year-on-year. Among these, flights to and from South Korea surged by 51 pct to 1,903.
For maritime transport, seaborne container throughput totaled 102,887 TEU, up by 14 pct; gross weight of seaborne container-based cargo totaled to 179,504 tons, up by 29 pct.
At the end of September, the number of fixed-line telephone users dropped by 3 pct year-on-year to 154,696, while the number of mobile telephone users grew by 8 pct to 1,686,971. In the first three quarters of the year, the number of subscribers to internet services totaled 295,775, up by 18 pct year-on-year.
