Wholesale and retail trade sees downturn in 2024

The Wholesale & Retail Trade sector recorded receipts of MOP126.18 billion and expenditure of MOP115.39 billion in 2024, down 8.4% and 6.7% from 2023, with a gross surplus of MOP11.61 billion, according to DSEC. Wholesale trade grew 8.4% to MOP47.13 billion, while retail trade fell 17.5% to MOP72.43 billion, driven by declines in department stores, watches, jewelry, and leather goods. Motor vehicle sales rose, and market stalls posted modest gains.
