A total of 11 people reportedly suffered injuries in a traffic accident involving one truck and two buses, one a public bus, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) has reported.
The accident occurred early afternoon at the Avenida da Ponte da Amizade in the direction of Macau – Taipa some 100 meters before the traffic light at the bridge’s entrance.
The PSP’s preliminary investigation has revealed the truck driver could have caused the accident by failing to keep a safe distance from the public bus, hitting the rear of it. In consequence, the public bus also hit the rear of a tour bus in front of it.
The accident injured 11 people including, the drivers of the truck and the public bus, and the nine public bus passengers.
All were sent to the hospital for treatment.
All the drivers passed blood alcohol tests.
According to the Fire Services, which deployed several ambulances and fire vehicles, none of the injured seemed to be in a serious condition.
The truck driver, a 44-year-old man, needed the most medical attention as he suffered a laceration to his head and several wounds caused by abrasions in his upper torso and arms.
None of the tour bus passengers reported injuries. Most of the public bus passengers suffered only bruises caused by them falling inside the bus cabin.
The accident caused serious traffic disruption that took several hours to resolve.
