AL committee inspects situation of idle land for temporary use

The specialized group of the Legislative Assembly’s Monitoring Committee for Land and Public Concessions visited several idle land plots in the Peninsula and the islands on Tuesday to learn about their current situation.

The tour also included presentations from the relevant departments on the provisional use the government plans to give these plots as a temporary arrangement.

According to the chair of the committee, lawmaker Ella Lei, the specialized group supports the government’s adoption of the “planning for utilization plus provisional use” model for unused land, which enables the proper use of precious land resources.

She said the purpose of the visit was to gain a better understanding of the specific situation of each of the land plots in question. Subsequently, public opinion will be gathered through various channels to encourage the government to optimize the provisional use of unused land and plan for its long-term use in response to public demand.

The tour followed the sequence of the committee’s first meeting early last month, when two specialized groups were set up to monitor the topics “Construction of the (Port) on the west bank of the Pearl River” and “Planning and utilization of idle land.”

Mid-month, the committee invited Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam and other government officials to present the status of the 39 unused plots of land.

The tour earlier this week included visits to Rua do Patane, Rua Marginal do Lam Mau, and Nam Van Lake on the Macau Peninsula, as well as several areas in Taipa and Coloane.

The group hopes that government departments will carry out their planning effectively in line with social development needs and respond to community demands for public facilities and leisure spaces.
