China’s Olympic gold medalists will visit Macau next week, from Monday to Thursday, the government announced. The Sports Bureau (ID) President Pu Weng Kun, said the medalists will visit the city’s cultural heritage sites, meet about 1,500 young people, participate in three events, and visit community facilities during the four-day visit. The 64-strong delegation will arrive in Macau after a three-day visit to Hong Kong, including all the 26 gold medalists. Team China won 27 gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze medals in the Rio Games. Taiwan brought home one gold and two bronze medals. Macau is estimated to be spending MOP12 million on the visit of Chinese Olympic athletes, about HKD4 million more than Hong Kong.

Y-Bridge: completion of the Hong Kong section delayed

1DELTA-BRIDGE-0724092014

Hu Zucai, the deputy director of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said yesterday that the completion of the Hong Kong section of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge project is behind schedule, according to a report by Macao Daily News. Hu said the world-class project requires technology of a high standard, resulting in the possibility of delays on all sides. Hu claims, however, that the overall process is still running smoothly. When questioned whether the Zhuhai and Macau sides will be completed before the Hong Kong section, the deputy director said all sections of the bridge will commence operations at the same time.  The construction of the Hong Kong section has been plagued by various difficulties, including cost overruns and delays.
