Briefs | Man dies after collapsing at work

One of CEM’s staff member passed away yesterday morning after “suddenly collapsing” while working at the electrical company’s power station in Coloane. A statement issued by the company stated that the man had collapsed at Coloane Power Station Unit 5 engine room around 10:30 a.m. yesterday. His colleagues immediately notified the company’s on-site doctor, and the man was brought to the hospital by ambulance. “The company’s doctor [was] performing first aid before the arrival of the ambulance, but he passed away in the hospital [in] the end,” stated CEM, adding that the company was “shocked and saddened at his sudden death.” The man, surnamed Lei, was 64 years old and had worked at CEM Power Station for 35 years.

Zhuhai imposes new restrictions on house purchases

The Zhuhai government yesterday announced a change in its restriction on housing purchases. Those in possession of the Zhuhai Hukou who own three or more houses are now banned from purchasing additional houses that are smaller than 144 square meters. The ban was also extended to non-locals who own one or more houses. Earlier this year, Zhuhai lifted all restrictions on housing units for both residents and non-residents. All individuals were allowed to buy residences of less than 144 square meters without providing social security and tax records.

Money supply continues to grow

Money supply continued to grow in August, according to statistics released yesterday by the Monetary Authority of Macao. Currency in circulation dropped 0.1 percent while demand deposits grew 4.2 percent. Resident deposits increased 2.6 percent from the preceding month to MOP490.5 billion, and non-resident deposits grew 1.2 percent to MOP279.0 billion. Domestic loans to the private sector increased 1.6 percent from a month ago to MOP408.4 billion.
