CAEAL reminds candidates that the advertising of lists and platforms ban starts June 27

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election (CAEAL) has reminded all groups that submitted nomination committees for the AL elections that, as of June 27, all members are prohibited from advertising any candidates or the list platforms.

This ban takes effect after the nomination committee’s submission period (June 26) ends and stays in place until August 29, when the official election campaign begins.

During a briefing yesterday afternoon, Seng Ioi Man, the president of CAEAL, mentioned that those who do not comply with this rule face a fine ranging from MOP2,000 to MOP10,000.

Seng also noted that, for now, the CAEAL has already received six nomination committees from groups running for direct elections, as well as six more from those participating in the indirect election. 

This means that the last two groups whose legal existence has already been verified and that have yet to submit to the nomination committees are the “New Hope” (Nova Esperança), which should continue to be led by the current lawmaker José Pereira Coutinho, and the Macau-Guangdong Union.

The last is a list that historically represents the interests of those with origins in Jiangmen, a prefecture-level city in Guangdong Province. In the previous election, this list elected two lawmakers, Zheng Anting and Lo Choi In.

The deadline for submitting the nomination committees to CAEAL is Thursday, June 26. Seng also took this opportunity to urge the remaining two groups to submit their entries as soon as possible.

The CAEAL will next publish the list of candidates from all groups at the Public Administration Building entrance lobby on Saturday, June 28, and will announce the decision on the review of the candidate list by July 15.

After this step, and depending on any objections or appeals, the final list of confirmed candidates will be announced between July 18 and 31.
