The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has opened the first section of the South Coast Waterfront Green Corridor Phase Two, focused on sports facilities, to the public today. Visitors can park in the temporary lot within the section or access the area via a temporary pedestrian path along Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.
Covering approximately 8,900 square meters near the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, the first section features the “Sports Ground,” including a football pitch, basketball court, basketball practice zone, and warm-up area.
Coastal walkways and wooden boardwalks provide space for walking and leisure by the water. Supporting amenities include public restrooms, lockers, and vending machines.
To facilitate access while the entire Phase Two project is still under construction, a temporary parking area accommodating 110 cars and around 100 motorcycles has been set up nearby, with vehicles entering via the Macau Tower road and pedestrians using the temporary path on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.

Phase Two of the green corridor spans three sections along the south coast of the Macau Peninsula, from the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge to “Gate of Understanding” (Porta do Entendimento), covering a total area of approximately 60,000 square meters. Phase Two is nearing 70% completion, while preliminary work for the third section is underway.
Designed around three main functional zones – family recreation, fitness and leisure, and waterfront landscaping – the project aims to provide a multifunctional coastal space for residents while enhancing the city’s waterfront environment.

The South Coastal Green Corridor Project has been highlighted as one of 12 priority initiatives under the government’s “Development Plan for the Appropriate Diversification of the Economy (2024–2028),” government officials announced back in 2023.
The project covers a 54,000-square-meter area stretching roughly 1,300 meters from the west of the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge to the Gate of Understanding.
According to the government, the project aims to transform the waterfront into a vibrant and accessible leisure space.
