Li reportedly replaced as Liaison chief

Li Gang, the former Central Government Liaison Office Director in Macau, reportedly left his post yesterday, according to Portuguese News Agency Lusa who have cited a representative confirming Li’s departure. Li, who has been in the role since 2013, will now be replaced by Wang Zhimin, the deputy head of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office. Wang is a Fujian native who has previously worked in Hong Kong in affairs relating to young people.

Aussie voting open until tomorrow

Almost 4,000 people in Macau and Hong Kong have already cast their votes for the Australian Federal Election, according to the Australian Consulate-General in Hong Kong, with just two days of voting left until the close of the polls tomorrow. The Hong Kong Polling Center will remain open today, the Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day public holiday, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and additionally tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The two SARs jointly represent the second largest group of overseas Australian voters. As such, Australia Plus TV will be broadcasting the election race unfolding live from 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Seven injured in 2nd bridge crash

Seven people were injured yesterday after a taxi collided head-on with a bus on the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, the second such incident in two weeks. The accident occurred in the afternoon when a taxi, heading toward Macau, changed lanes into the path of a bus bound for Taipa. Seven people have been hurt, including two bus passengers, an elderly woman and a child that sustained minor injuries. All four taxi passengers involved in the crash were injured with one, a mainland Chinese woman, now in a coma at the hospital. The bus driver has passed a breathalyzer test, according to TDM, while the test of the taxi driver is yet to be known.
