Life & Style | Collectable sneakers on auction at Sotheby’s in New York

True sneaker heads will get the opportunity to expand their collection as Sotheby’s in New York holds its first sneaker auction.

These aren’t just any old sneakers but 100 of the rarest, most-coveted sneakers around, including the Nike handmade “Moon Shoe” designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman in 1972. Only 12 were made and a pair is expected to fetch as much as USD160,000.

Another highlight: Two pairs of Nike Mags inspired by “Back to the Future,” made to raise money for Parkinson’s research. Both models light up and one is self-lacing.

The auction also features a pair of size 9 Nike Air Jordan II blue suede Derek Jeter shoes, made to commemorate the New York Yankee icon’s 2014 retirement. The starting bid is $30,000.

Bidding runs through July 23.

Barbie goes glam rock to honor David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust

Barbie has been many things over the years. Now, she’s dressed as Ziggy Stardust.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s iconic “Space Oddity,” Barbie overseers at Mattel released a collectible version of the doll dressed as Ziggy Stardust, one of his most beloved alter egos.

Barbie wears the metallic Ziggy space suit with red and blue stripes, flared shoulders and cherry red platform boots. Mattel spared no makeup, featuring the astral sphere smack in the middle of Ziggy Barbie’s forehead. The doll’s hair is fiery red.

The USD50, limited edition doll was created in collaboration with The David Bowie Archive.

The beloved rocker died in 2016 after battling cancer. He was 69.

Funeral held for Beth Chapman of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’

Friends and family of the late “Dog the Bounty Hunter” reality TV show co-star Beth Chapman gathered in Colorado on Saturday where they remembered her as tough and irreverent, yet full of love even for some of the fugitives she helped apprehend.

Funeral services were held in Chapman’s home state after she died last month at the age of 51 in Hawaii, where she lived with her family. She had been battling cancer for about two years.

Chapman and her husband Duane “Dog” Chapman starred in the A&E show until it was canceled in 2012. The show followed the couple as they apprehended people who avoided arrest warrants.

They later starred in Country Music Television’s “Dog & Beth: On the Hunt.”

During Saturday’s services at the Heritage Christian Center, Duane Chapman recalled how he met his future wife when he posted her bond after she’d shoplifted a lemon.

Long-time friend Mary Ellen Pollack, who runs a bail bonds business in Brighton, Colorado, said Chapman’s “tough-as nails” public persona belied a softer side.

“She didn’t let anybody see that, and that’s simply because of the profession she was in,” Pollack said.
