The world premiere of “Picasso: Beauty and Drama,” presented by SJM Resorts, S.A. (SJM), has officially opened at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, as part of Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025.
Jointly organized by SJM and Museo Casa Natal Picasso, with support from the Agencia Pública para la Gestión de la Casa Natal de Pablo Ruiz Picasso y Otros Equipamientos Museísticos y Culturales and Ayuntamiento de Málaga, the exhibition runs until October 26.
It features more than 140 original works by Pablo Picasso, including paintings, prints, ceramics, manuscripts, and illustrations.
“This exhibition exemplifies meaningful cross-cultural collaboration and resonates with our longstanding efforts to promote Chinese cultural heritage. It also underscores Macau’s unique East-meets-West character,” said Daisy Ho, managing director of SJM.
Echoing the theme of Art Macao 2025, “Hey, what brings you here?”, the exhibition “Picasso: Beauty and Drama” traces Pablo Picasso’s artistic development through different stages of his career and across a variety of mediums.
The exhibition offers a closer look at the artist’s personal influences and his connection to his birthplace of Andalusia.
Highlighted works include “Figure in Striped Bodice,” created for one of Picasso’s partners; “Paloma with Doll, Black Background,” a portrait of his daughter; the ceramic piece “Knight and Horse;” and “Painter with Brush and Model with Headscarf,” which reflects the artist’s studio environment.
