São Tomé and Equatorial Guinea make decision on joint oil exploration in December

São Tomé and Príncipe and Equatorial Guinea will try to formalise in December a proposal for a partnership for oil exploration on their common border, the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe said this week in São Tomé.
At the end of a meeting with the president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who paid an official visit to São Tomé and Príncipe, Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada announced the creation of a joint commission and said that next December there would be a meeting in Equatorial Guinea so that the next steps in the creation of this partnership can be taken.
“We want to set up the partnership as soon as possible,” said Trovoada, who noted the two sides would prepare documents “to establish the contours of the company that will make this partnership a reality.”
The president of Equatorial Guinea on Monday concluded a 48-hour visit to São Tomé at the invitation of his Sao Tomé counterpart, Manuel Pinto da Costa, during which the two countries discussed strengthening cooperation, particularly in the oil sector.
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who went to the São Tomé capital on his first visit after the integration of Equatorial Guinea in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), took the opportunity to thank São Tomé and Príncipe for its “great support” in the process of Equatorial Guinea becoming a CPLP member.
