Los Angeles sheriff’s detectives are investigating the theft of a USD150,000 pearl-adorned dress worn by actress Lupita Nyong’o at Sunday’s Academy Awards.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Bowman says the dress was reported stolen from a West Hollywood hotel around yesterday (Macau time). The ivory Calvin Klein dress featured 6,000 pearls of various sizes.
Detectives are reviewing whether security footage is available that would aid the investigation. Bowman says Nyong’o was present when deputies took a report about the theft.
The 31-year-old Kenyan actress won an Oscar last year for her role in “Twelve Years a Slave.” She was a presenter at the awards ceremony. Nyong’o’s publicists are not commenting on the theft.
The dress was from the Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa.
American Horror story – Lady Gaga joining the cast of the hit series
TV is Lady Gaga’s new platform: After an impressive performance at the Oscars, the singer announced she will join the cast of “American Horror Story.”
FX confirmed yesterday that the pop star will join the fifth season of the hit series, which returns in October. No details were provided.
Gaga tweeted a horror flick-inspired video of herself in a mask. She said the name of the show’s new season is “American Horror Story Hotel.”
The 28-year-old Grammy-winning singer starred in the 2013 film “Machete Kills.” She earned rave reviews for her performance honoring “The Sound of Music” at Sunday’s Academy Awards.
Her tour with Tony Bennett kicks off April 23 in Austin, Texas.
TV – Ming-Na Wen: ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ role makes me a cool mom
Ming-Na Wen says although she may play ace pilot and weapons expert Melinda May on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the television series about the Marvel Comics organization has become her arsenal for getting her children to think she’s cool.
“They love the show,” says Wen. She says that when her 9-year-old son, Cooper Dominic, saw the show debut at San Diego Comic Con in 2013, “He was like, ‘Mom! I didn’t know you could fly a plane. That is so cool!’”
Wen says her son and her 14-year-old daughter, Michaela, are especially amazed because her kick-butt TV persona is so very different from the mom they know — a “girlie girl” who loves wearing sundresses. “I laugh all the time and I’m always smiling and mommy’s the one that does the cooking and mommy’s a klutz,” she says.
The 51-year-old actress says her kids’ rave reviews are the best she could ask for. “For me, my career could be over right then and there and I’d be happy.”
Oscars night fever – From ‘Pulp Fiction’ to Oscar meme, Travolta’s highs and lows
Since strutting onto the big screen in “Saturday Night Fever,” John Travolta has had a career marked by dramatic ups and downs, from comeback king to Internet meme.
Travolta’s latest step back into the spotlight at last week’s Academy Awards was uneasy. He’s been widely pilloried for his touching of Idina Menzel’s face while he cooed “You, you my darling, my beautiful, my wickedly talented Idina Menzel.”
“Apparently I played with her chin too much,” Travolta told Jimmy Kimmel about his reunion with Menzel. At the conclusion of the Oscars, host Neil Patrick Harris predicted Travolta (booked to redeem himself for his infamous mangling of Menzel’s name the year before) will be back at next year’s show to apologize again for “all the face touching.”
Images of Travolta kissing Scarlett Johansson in front of photographers on the red carpet also went viral, turning the star into a social media punch line. Johansson, however, defended Travolta in a statement to The Associated Press saying, “There is nothing at all strange, creepy or inappropriate about John Travolta.”
The Oscar incidents come at a time when Travolta, 61, is prepping a handful of projects and ahead of the release of an explosive documentary on Scientology that focuses considerably on Travolta’s relationship with the organization. MDT/Agencies
