The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) reported that Tropical Cyclone Fengshen has made 2025 the year with the highest number of tropical cyclone signals on record.
A total of 13 signals have been issued so far, surpassing the previous record of 12 in 1974, making it the most active year since 1968.
Fengshen also became the fifth recorded instance in which Signal No. 3 was issued directly without first raising Signal No. 1. The last time this occurred was during Tropical Storm Sinlaku in 2020.
Meanwhile, at 5 p.m. yesterday, the bureau noted that Severe Tropical Storm Fengshen had moved away from the region.
However, under the influence of the northeast monsoon, winds will still reach force 6 with gusts. Therefore, the SMG has issued the Strong Monsoon Signal at 5 p.m, replacing the Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 3.
“Due to the prevailing northeast winds, storm surge impacts are expected to be minor. However, due to the influence of the astronomical spring tide, minor flooding is expected in low-lying areas of the Inner Harbour during high tide periods over the next few evenings,” the bureau stated.
The bureau also warned of cooler weather in the coming days.
Temperatures are expected to drop to around 17 degrees Celsius today, with strong winds and rainy, cloudy conditions making it feel colder.
The northeast monsoon is expected to ease gradually, bringing more sunshine and warmer daytime temperatures, though mornings and evenings will remain cool.
