Unemployment rate of local residents at 3.9%

The general unemployment rate for July to September was 2.9% and the unemployment rate of local residents was 3.9%, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Rates were up by 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points, respectively, from the previous period (June-August). The underemployment rate was 3.9%, up by 0.2 percentage points.
The total labor force in Macau was 386,800 and labor force participation rate was 68.5%. Total employment was 375,600, and the total number of employed residents was 279,200, down by 700 and 400 respectively.
The number of unemployed increased by 600 to 11,200.Meanwhile, the number of underemployed rose to 15,000, up 600, with the majority working in Gaming and Junket Activities and in the Construction sector.
Employment in Gaming and Junket Activities rose by 2,600 to 80,100, while Real Estate and Business Activities went down by 1,600 to 31,700.
Median monthly employment earnings of the employed in the third quarter was MOP16,000, with those working in Gaming & Junket Activities and the Construction sector earning MOP20,000 and MOP15,000 respectively. Median earnings of employed residents specifically stood at MOP20,000.
Based on movement records, an average of about 85,600 Macau residents and non-resident workers worked in Macau but lived outside the territory during the reference period. Including these individuals, the total labor force increased by 500 to 471,400.
The employment survey covers all residential units in Macau, excluding collective living quarters such as dormitories and care homes for the elderly. Macau residents and non-resident workers who work in Macau but live outside the territory are also excluded. Staff reporter
