Wynn Macau secures land for Wynn Palace expansion with new hotel, theater

Wynn Palace has secured a land concession in Cotai to build a new hotel tower, an international theater and an events center.

A dispatch signed by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam, published in the Official Gazette on July 16 under the Land Law, granted Wynn Resorts Macau a land concession covering 205,797 square meters within the existing Wynn Palace site in Cotai, approving the expansion of the complex and the construction of a new hotel tower. The decision took immediate effect.

Wynn Macau subsequently confirmed that the government had authorized the expansion, awarding 51 acres of land for a new five-star hotel, a theater and an events and entertainment center, with an additional cash premium of MOP625 million to be paid by the company.

The land concession for Wynn, valid until May 1, 2037, with the possibility of renewal under applicable laws, will accommodate a comprehensive development comprising a five-star hotel spanning 534,100 square meters, alongside gaming facilities, a convention center, retail and dining outlets, a spa, a nightclub, an 8,787-square-meter international theater, a 23,700-square-meter events and activities center, nearly 69,500 square meters of parking, and 93,900 square meters of outdoor space.

The land utilization works must be completed within 60 months of the dispatch’s publication. Reports indicate that the approved hotel floor area exceeds earlier proposals by 17%, with the theater and events center added at the expense of reduced parking and outdoor areas.

Notably, Wynn had initially applied to the Land and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU) in 2023 for partial approval of the land concession modification, submitting a revised plan early last year.

Following interdepartmental consultations with the Finance Services Bureau (DSF) and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), authorities confirmed they had no objections, provided the casino floor area remained unchanged.
