0.4 megatons of food imported from mainland last year

Macau imported a total of 400,000 tons of food produce from the mainland in 2019, which included meat, seafood and poultry, and fruits and vegetables, according to a statement from the Secretariat for Economy and Finance.

The Secretariat released the statement on the occasion of a work visit between January 15 and 17 by the assistant minister of commerce of the People’s Republic of China.

The assistant minister, Ren Hongbin, met with Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, the Municipal Affairs Bureau, besides conducting visits to a wholesale market and the Patane Municipal Market.

Ren was informed about the condition of food quality and supply, as well as local price fluctuations.

It was also unveiled in the statement that work is in progress to safeguard the supply of food produce to Macau during the Chinese Lunar New Year period. Quality processing facilities were also set up in the mainland in accordance with central directives. AL
