Angolan trader Mike (l) bargains with miss Zhou, a Chinese retailer in a wholesale market in Xiaobei Road, a commercial area in Guangzhou

Next October Portugal plans to reopen a Consulate General in Guangzhou, according to Portuguese daily newspaper Diário de Todos.
The newspaper reported the joint order of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance for opening the consular representation had already been signed.
The Portuguese Secretary of State for the Communities, José Cesário, told the newspaper that, “In the first half of October a diplomat is due to start working on the setting up of the Consulate General. He must select the facilities and then start recruiting staff.”
The Consulate General of Portugal in the capital of Guangdong province was previously in operation until September 1966, when the Cultural Revolution was unleashed.
The Republic of Angola is also due to open a Consulate General in Guangzhou this month. An order from the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs named the diplomat João Baptista da Costa for the post of Consul General.
Ambassador Baptista da Costa worked at the Central Executive Services of the Foreign Affairs Ministry and previously served as Director General of the Institute of Angolan Communities Abroad and Consular Services.
Located very close to Macau, the city of Guangzhou is China’s third largest with over 14 million inhabitants, is one of the most frequent destinations of Angolan citizens who travel to China for business and to study. MDT/Macauhub
